It is much more difficult to praise God when things are not all smooth and good, thus to continue to praise him in these times it takes much more faith, more devotion, more conviction – more battle with selfishness. Therefore the praise of a sufferer is much more demonstrative of God’s magnificence and supremacy because he must put himself through a much more crushing and humbling experience to get to the position of continual praise, thus demonstrating the supreme value of God to his soul.
It is in the times of greatest difficulty that we really demonstrate what we truly value most because we only have the strength and energy to hold on to that which matters most. This is why so many things become so unimportant when we go through difficulty. This is also precisely why suffering is one of the greatest opportunities to glorify God in our lives.
