Lessons From the Life of Churchill (Pt. 2)

The Power of Determination

One of the most important and most determining aspects of he our lives is our understanding of how we fit into the world in which we live. The clarity with which one sees their purpose and place in life will determine their ability to focus on and flourish in that purpose. A life that is distracted by a great deal of many things and pulled in multiple directions is a life that does not really accomplish much.

A Step into Excellence

This article is a repost from our youth website which launched today. To me this is an important moment in life. Its so amazing to see how God has been working lately. The logo which was created originally just for camp has had a bigger impression than anticipated.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9

Camp ended this year on a very powerful note. Since Jesus is our amazing King who has redeemed and conquered our hearts to himself, we are now citizens of an everlasting kingdom, a kingdom that works in and through our hearts. The call of the christian life is not just about accepting Jesus into your heart and waiting for him to take you to heaven. Far beyond that, it is a call to engage in a battle, in a movement; it gives us the high privilege of taking the front lines in the spread of his kingdom.

Back to the Bigger Picture

Due to the foggy craziness of nursing school I haven’t had a chance to write anything in quite a while. Its hard to free your mind from something so challenging and mind-filling as nursing school.

But as the last few weeks have dragged to an end it has been such a huge relief to be set free from that weight. I am surprised myself at the rate at which I have leaped out of the classroom and back into wrestling with questions about my convictions about life, about digging back into more Bible, and looking back at the last few months and seeking to learn something about what God is doing in my life.

A Better Form of Life

One of the reasons why I love to spend time in good conversations is because it really takes me out of my little world and shows me the diversity of life and ideas that surround me in the people in my life. One thing that does not often occur to us is the fact that there are so many different ways to live life.

Consider the following example: the perception and experience of a small boy in a village in Africa is vastly different from a successful CEO in New York City. The surrounding contexts in which these people grow puts a chasm of separation in the way each of these two view and experience life. The gap is so large that it is hard to imagine that these two live on the same planet. And that is just one comparison. The world is full of millions of different cultures and languages and peoples and ways.

There are so many ways to live life.

What Tomorrow Will Bring

Its so interesting how life can sneak up on us and go places that we have never expected. As I think back over the fading 2012, the constant fact that comes to mind is that we really never know what God will do next. I am just blown away by the way my life has changed. WOW. So often we get so focused on our goals and expectations, we really start to forget some hugely important surrounding realities. We think we have an idea of what life will be like, we think we know where we are going with things…

This is especially true of us twenty-somethings. We have grown beyond the adolescent years and are moving on through young adulthood, having things nailed down pretty good. Our plans give us a false sense of security and direction.
